1900 - 2025
A story of passion and expertise
Since its founding in 1900, the family-owned Varone estate has kept pace with the major developments in Swiss and Valais viticulture and winemaking. Philippe Varone represents the fourth generation of a family known for its independent and daring spirit. A pioneer, he dared to challenge conventional ideas about wine tasting. He was the first to take into account the unique characteristics of each individual’s palate when selecting a wine.
Maison Varone continues to write its story with ambition. By establishing itself as a key player in the Valais wine industry, it ensures a solid future for its values, its wines, and its commitment to tradition and innovation.

1900 - 2025
Varone's 125th Anniversary
A passion passed down from generation to generation
Since 1900, the family-owned Varone Vins has evolved in step with the major transformations in Swiss and Valais viticulture and winemaking. A visionary from the very beginning, the company has pioneered innovation by being the first to offer its wines in small containers and to distinguish between bottled and open-bottle wines. This bold approach quickly led to its rise in popularity among food connoisseurs and home cooks, both in Switzerland and abroad.
In the 1920s, Frédéric Varone, the founder, recognized the importance of strong brands and launched iconic wines, including the Fendant Soleil du Valais and the Dôle Valéria. These wines would go on to become true hallmarks of the estate.

A Strategic Turning Point
In 1992, a new milestone was reached: Varone joined forces with Bonvin 1858 Les Domaines to create Les Celliers de Champsec, a strategic alliance aimed at optimizing resources and developing synergies.
Today, under the leadership of Philippe Varone, Mayor of Sion, the company has entrusted its management to Les Celliers de Sion, led by David Héritier. This strengthened partnership has resulted in a joint sales force and the creation of Switzerland’s first OEnoparc, a unique venue dedicated to wine discovery at the foot of the spectacular terraced vineyards.
A legacy focused on the future
Building on four generations of passion and expertise, Varone continues to write its story with ambition.
By establishing itself as a key player in the Valais wine industry, it ensures a solid future for its values, its wines, and its commitment to tradition and innovation.
