A family home in Valais
Wine as an experience, for four generations
Since its founding in 1900, the family-owned Varone winery has kept pace with major developments in Swiss and Valais viticulture and winemaking.
At that time, it was the first to offer its wines in small containers and to distinguish between bottled wines and open-cask wines. This helped ensure the commercial growth of Varone wines in the restaurant industry and among private customers in Switzerland and abroad.

1900
At that time, Varone was the first to offer its wines in small containers and to distinguish between bottled wines and open-bottle wines.
This helped ensure the commercial growth of Varone wines in the restaurant industry and among private customers in Switzerland and abroad.
1920
As early as the 1920s, Frédéric Varone, the founder, anticipated market trends by creating strong brands such as Fendant Soleil du Valais and Dôle Valéria.
1992
In 1992, Varone joined forces with Bonvin 1858 Les Domaines to create Les Celliers de Champsec, with the goal of developing synergies and streamlining certain operations.
Today
Philippe Varone, Mayor of Sion, has decided to delegate the management of his company to Les Celliers de Sion, led by David Héritier.
As part of this initiative, the two partners are strengthening their collaboration by launching a joint sales force and creating Switzerland’s first Oenoparc at the foot of the spectacular terraced vineyards.
Les Celliers de Sion is emerging as a premier venue where consumers and winemakers can come together.
The Senses
Tasting wine engages all the senses
Since its founding, Varone has been committed to its values. In the 2000s, the company adopted a strategy focused on building a close relationship with the end consumer, highlighting a unique approach: multisensory discovery.
This results in wines of exceptional precision and uncompromising quality, which are presented at tastings designed to awaken all the senses. A different way to see, smell, touch, and taste wine…
01
See
The color, its intensity, its highlights: the first clues to the vintage.
02
To smell
The nose at first, then after aeration, when the grape variety comes through.
03
Touch
The body, the structure, and the texture of the wine.
04
To hear
The service, the glass, the setting: a wine is never tasted in silence.
05
Snack
Balance, length—what remains once the glass has settled.
Tasting wine engages all the senses and draws on our memory. It invites us to search for smells, tastes, or even sensations in our most distant memories in order to put our perceptions into words.

Since 1992
Varone and Les Celliers de Sion
In 1992, Varone partnered with Bonvin 1858 Les Domaines to create Les Celliers de Champsec, with the goal of developing synergies and streamlining certain operations.
There, the two companies created Switzerland’s first Œnoparc, at the foot of the spectacular terraced vineyard: a place where visitors can meet the artisans of the vineyard and the wine.
Taste and Order Varone Wines
Varone wines can be tasted at the Œnoparc des Celliers de Sion and ordered at any time from the online store.
